Asheville Police Department is searching for suspect in fatal shooting

ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) – Officers with the Asheville Police Department said Saturday they are looking for a homicide suspect.

Officers said Saturday morning, they responded to a welfare check in the 100 block of South French Broad Ave.

Upon arrival, officers found 26-year-old Makayla Lashea Harrison dead. Police said the cause of death appeared to be a gunshot wound.

Police said detectives were able to identify 34-year-old Darron Lamon Clayton as the shooter.

Clayton is described as being 6′ tall and weighing approximately 185 lbs. He has black hair and brown eyes.

Police said he also has a scar on his left forearm and a pierced left ear.

Officers said he should be considered armed and dangerous.

If you see yourself, officers warn you to stay away from Clayton and call 911 immediately.

“This tragic incident marks the 11th homicide the Asheville Police Department has investigated in 2024,” officers said. “The Asheville Police Department remains committed to solving this case and supporting the victim’s family during this difficult time.”

Law enforcement urged anyone who may know Clayton’s whereabouts to share information anonymously by texting TIP2APD to 847411.
