BERTIE COUNTY, NC (WITN) – Deputies say a man is in custody after illegal drugs were found during a traffic stop in Aulander on Friday.

According to the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office, at 9:19 p.m., deputies stopped a vehicle for a minor traffic violation.

They say that after speaking with the driver, a search was conducted and they found 1.7 grams of methamphetamines and 8 bundles of heroin inside.

Deputies say Thomas Byrd, 50, of Virginia was charged with possession of methamphetamine, heroin and drug paraphernalia.

Harrell was processed and booked into the Bertie/Martin Regional Jail on a $10,000 secured bond.
