Hyderabad: Enumerators collecting household data as part of the full door-to-door program Caste Censuswhich aim to assess the social, economic, educational, employment, political and caste status of the people, face a difficult task as a large number of people are not so keen to participate in the survey and question the status of the applications on who had them. submitted under the Praja Palana program earlier this year. People also refuse to share information and ask the enumerators to leave their house as they do not trust the survey conducted by the state government.

People in many villages claim that during Praja Palana program, the state government has collected applications for various schemes, including white ration cards and pension, but they have not received the benefits so far. They stood in queue for two to three days to submit applications during the Praja Palana program and expected the government to provide benefits from the various schemes and programs promised by the Congress, but the entire exercise was limited to paperwork only, they said, adding that the present comprehensive study of caste would also prove a futile exercise and the people would not derive any benefit.

“Why should we give details about our family? Last time I submitted applications under various schemes. What happened to them? Where are our pensions? The government provides all the benefits to a few people. Why should we give details about our family? And this time the government will collect details and nothing will happen,” the villagers tell the enumerators.

According to some of the enumerators, people also asked about the six guarantees promised by the Congress in the Assembly elections.

“When the government has not given them any benefit, why should they give their family details, they argue. Even those who give information are not willing to give information about their assets and caste. Why do you want to know about our properties? You have no right to ask about our goods. We will not give details about the goods, it is what they tell us,” said a female enumerator.

About 85,000 enumerators and over 19,000 supervisors were deployed to collect the information from each household. Houses were identified and marked with a sticker in the first three days, and actual information from each household is collected from November 9. The questionnaire has more than 50 questions in two major parts and some have several sub-questions which will allow the enumerator. to capture the key elements of social, economic, educational, income, political and caste information from all sections.
