Sir Keir Starmer accused of allowing anti-Semitism to “deteriorate” in Britain

Last week, pro-Palestinian protesters launched a series of anti-Israel vandalism attacks on buildings around the UK to mark 107 years since the Balfour Declaration.

Palestine Action stole two busts of Israel’s first president from the University of Manchester and smeared campus buildings, along with a research center and a Jewish charity office elsewhere, with red paint.

In London, Palestine Action spray-painted the UK Israel Research and Communications Center on Hampstead High Street with red paint, claiming it was “funded from the wealth of Israeli arms manufacturing” and therefore in line with the wider ambition of the group to “dismantle Zionism”.

Last month, Jewish pensioners and women were left in tears as they queued for an event at the JW3 Jewish community center in north London. It was targeted by masked pro-Palestinian protesters shouting into megaphones that they were “mass murderers” and “baby killers”.

The Council of Deputies of British Jews and the Jewish National Assembly said the “appalling” action was “anti-Semitic” and intended to “intimidate British Jews”.

“Climate of Intolerance”

Alex Hearn, director of LAAS, said: “There have been a number of Labor policies which appear to have only served to satisfy quite a few an extreme group setting.

“Government figures show that attacks against Jews have exploded, and we know that many are using Israel as a cipher to express this hatred.

“Policies such as the decision to restore funding to UNRWA despite evidence of ties to Hamas, the arms embargo and the ICC arrest warrant are, in reality, performative, but add to the soundtrack that Israel is persona non grata.

“The people who attend these (pro-Palestinian) rallies have become empowered, in part, by these policies. It added to a climate of intolerance and hatred.

“Sometimes Labour’s policies seem to target those who attack us, rather than offering us solidarity and support. We would like to see a stronger position in terms of defence Israel’s right to defend itself and its fundamental right to exist.”
