A Twin Falls man has been sentenced to prison for child sex offenses

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) – A Twin Falls man is headed to prison after being convicted of child sex crimes.

On August 26, Mathew Shoup pleaded guilty to rape, lewd conduct of a child under 16, sexual abuse of a minor under 16 and intimidating, influencing, preventing or dissuading a witness from testifying in a criminal or juvenile matter, according to court documents.

Prosecutors said Shoup engaged minors and had a three-year relationship with one of the victims.

He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 30 years in prison, with 10 years fixed and 20 intermittent.

“It is the determination of this court that the defendant is not an appropriate candidate for community supervision and that, considering these factors, a sentence of incarceration is in fact the appropriate sentence for this case,” said Judicial Officer William R. Hancock.

Also, an order was sent to prohibit contact with witnesses or any minor under 18 years of age.
