Bengaluru (Karnataka) (India), Nov 9 (ANI): India’s approach of rolling out digital infrastructure networks on the country’s ‘public money’ instead of choosing private players, unlike other countries, has helped players and businesses to micro level to develop, Union said. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday.

Interacting with the students of JAIN University, Bengaluru, Sitharaman added that the government and stakeholders have played an important role in making the evolution of digital infrastructure successful.

The Union Finance Minister said, “India’s approach to digital rollout has been completely country driven by public money. It was funded by the government. Very many other countries even today go through the root of a private player who has produced a platform through which you can access global markets, which means that the private players will receive some nominal fees at least from each user. Whereas what India did was create this huge infrastructure that allowed it for banking purposes, it allowed it for health purposes, it allowed it for marketing purposes, it allowed it for payment purposes, so allowed it for educational purposes.”

“So this public infrastructure that was created provided benefits to the very very small users, the micro level users and without having to pay for it. So a small business that wanted to grow and wanted to access markets beyond their village today,” added Sitharaman.

Highlighting the success of the digital revolution in the country, she cited an example of her interaction during her visit to Nagaland.

She stated that even NGOs in Nagaland receive orders from the US during Christmas due to the success of the digital revolution that has taken place in the country.

She also added that the government has created the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), an open network for digital commerce that helps even larger e-commerce companies.

“So digital inclusion, financial inclusion, people aren’t waiting for someone to come and educate them because it’s already in plain language and it’s on the phone. They can access that. And this will grow and grow more,” the Union finance minister said, adding that there is a need for continuous upgradation of technologies in the future. (YEAR)
