A pedestrian has died in a horror crash in Melbourne after the car stalled

A man out for a walk on a suburban footpath in Melbourne has died after being hit by a car.

Emergency services were called to Dalton Rd in Epping, north of the city, at around 10am on Saturday following reports that a car had gone up a footpath and hit a pedestrian.

Victoria Police confirmed the 63-year-old Mill Park man died at the scene. He has not yet been officially identified.

After being hit, the driver then continued down the path before crashing into a utility pole and a building.

The 27-year-old driver from Glenroy suffered serious lower body injuries.

He was freed from the wreckage by firefighters and taken to hospital where he remains in critical condition under police guard.

He has not yet been questioned and no charges have been laid.

Pictures show massive damage to the silver hatchback, including the hood and windshield completely destroyed.

He then allegedly “speeded off” and crashed shortly after.

Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit are investigating the exact circumstances surrounding the collision, with inquiries ongoing.
