TGCSB arrests key player in overseas jobs scam

Hyderabad: The cyber crime police belonging to the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) have arrested a key accused, Sadakat Khan from Uttar Pradesh, on charges of sending people to Cambodia and engaging in cyber crime activities. Khan was arrested at the Delhi airport and brought to the city.

Police had earlier arrested K. Sai Prasad from Jagtial, Mohammed Abid Hussain Ansari from Pune and Mohd. Shadab Alam of Bihar for their involvement in the racket.

According to officials, a person from Sircilla had filed a complaint on May 16 about her son, who was looking for a job abroad.

The four accused, posing as agents, induced him to travel to Cambodia after collecting Rs 1.4 lakh. Upon arrival, her son informed her that he had been coerced and forced to commit cyber crimes, made to work 16 to 17 hours a day, and had his passport confiscated by agents. He indicated that around 500 to 600 Indians were similarly forced to do online fraud for the same company.

Following her complaint, TGCSB in coordination with officials brought the victim back to Telangana. He revealed that he was physically abused and imprisoned and that agents threatened to kill him.

“Agents based in India lure job seekers with promises of lucrative employment abroad and collect substantial money under the guise of processing, registration and visa fees. After arriving in Cambodia, the victims are handed over to Chinese handlers who force them to do criminal cyber activities,” TGCSB said.

“Any resistance from victims results in physical violence and isolation. After months of exploitation, the manipulators extort additional payments, often demanding payment in bitcoins. This racket is causing serious financial and psychological problems,” the office said.
