MeckDems chief executive resigns, claims ‘hostile environment’ prompted her to leave

CHARLOTTE, NC — A change in leadership has struck Mecklenburg County Democratic Party. The organization’s chief executive, Monifa Drayton, announced her resignation in a lengthy letter on Friday. WCCB obtained a copy of that letter.

In the letter, Drayton claims that the MeckDems allow racism and a hostile work environment that made her feel discriminated against. Drayton claimed her responsibilities as chief executive were taken away from her and staff members were told not to speak to her. Drayton and her attorney declined to comment further.

WCCB reached out to MeckDems, who says the organization does not comment on personal matters but is committed to a diverse workforce. Drayton spent his final days with the MeckDems, conducting research campaigns for the Democratic Party.
