Quincy, Monroe City man gets 20 years in prison for distributing meth – Muddy River News

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Phillip C. Mayfield, 35, who lived in both Quincy and Monroe City, Missouri, was sentenced Thursday to 20 years in federal prison for distribution of methamphetamine, followed by five years supervised release.

Mayfield was indicted in June 2023 and convicted after a jury trial in June 2024. During three days of testimony, the government presented evidence to establish that Mayfield sold more than 50 grams of methamphetamine to another person in a Quincy grocery store parking lot in February 2023. He then made a second sale of over 50 grams of methamphetamine in a Quincy apartment parking lot in March 2023.

At the sentencing hearing before U.S. District Judge Colleen R. Lawless, the government determined that Mayfield was out on bail on five separate state felony counts at the time he sold the drugs. During the hearing, Lawless noted that Mayfield had a significant criminal history, which included two prior convictions for drug trafficking. Lawless also commented that Mayfield was motivated to commit his crimes because he enjoyed the lifestyle of being a drug dealer and the financial means it offered.

Mayfield remains in the custody of the United States Marshals Service, where he has been since his arrest on June 20, 2023. The statutory penalties for distribution of methamphetamine are at least 10 years and up to life in prison; at least five years and up to a life term of supervised release; and a fine of up to $10,000,000.

The Illinois State Police West Central Illinois Task Force investigated the case, along with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Springfield Residents Bureau. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sarah E. Seberger and Matthew Z. Weir represented the government in the prosecution.

The case against Mayfield is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program that brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
