LAKELAND, Fla. (Gray News) – A toddler was killed in a fiery crash in Florida after their father and a Good Samaritan tried to save them, deputies said.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said a vehicle carrying a father and his two young children went through an intersection in a grassy, ​​wooded area and crashed into a tree before catching fire.

The father and a good Samaritan worked to get the children out of the back seat. Deputies said the two were able to save one of the children, “but the other child tragically died in the fire.”

The surviving father and child were taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries. The Good Samaritan was also treated at the hospital for burns they received while helping.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
