GREENLAND — Two people were seriously injured in a head-on crash Wednesday that temporarily closed all southbound lanes of Interstate 95, according to state police. It was the latest accident involving a vehicle crossing the median.

Police said they were called to a report of a rollover accident on I-95 South in Greenland just after 6 p.m.

When troopers arrived, they determined that a vehicle had crossed the median from the northbound lanes and struck another vehicle traveling southbound head-on.

The drivers of both vehicles, who were the only occupants, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital, according to police. Police said the drivers’ names are being withheld at this time and no charges have been filed.

The crash comes about a week after an Oct. 16 crash on I-95 in Greenland it took two livesalso after a northbound driver lost control and crossed the median into the southbound lanes where the crash occurred. The New Hampshire Department of Transportation said it is considering placing median barriers on I-95.

As a result of the latest crash, police said, all lanes of southbound I-95 were closed for about an hour during the investigation and cleanup.

Police said one lane remained closed for another half hour while the remaining debris was cleared from the road.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by members of the Greenland Police Department, Greenland Fire Department, North Hampton Fire & Rescue and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.
