Dense fog early Saturday, staying warm this weekend

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – More warm afternoons are ahead this weekend, and foggy mornings are not.

Widespread fog (grey areas) with locally very low visibilities is expected on Saturday morning.
Widespread fog (grey areas) with locally very low visibilities is expected on Saturday morning.

Above normal temperatures will continue with highs in the mid to upper 80s each day. We’ll have plenty of sunshine both days and that’s good news for outdoor plans and festivities. If you have somewhere to be early in the morning, we will probably have to deal with fog. Dense fog is likely to appear again Saturday morning around sunrise, so use caution on the roads if you have a place to be.

Without rain, we will need to be cautious with outdoor activities and refrain from burning as long as dry weather advisories and burn bans remain in place. At least some fire danger is likely to persist for some time as much of SWLA remains at 2/4 drought (severe) on the US Drought Monitor. Drought levels have expanded with the latest US Drought Monitor update. A worsening of the moderate drought we are in is certainly possible before we return to better rains. Burn bans include Calcasieu, Jeff Davis, Allen, Beauregard and Vernon parishes.

Finally, there may be changes to this dry pattern later next week. Stronger southerly winds are likely to return and increase the humidity a bit more. Then a stronger front may move in by Wednesday, and that combination could be enough to provide a better chance for at least some scattered showers later in the week. This could also include Halloween, so keep a close eye on the forecast as rain chances could increase or decrease during this time frame.
