Maha Snana rituals of Goddess Tara Tarini performed after theft

Maa Tara Tarini’s ‘Maha Snana’ (bathing rituals) was performed in Ganjam on Friday as per tradition after some miscreants desecrated the Goddess idol during the recent temple theft incident.

Earlier, a few days ago, some unidentified miscreants broke into the Tara Tarini temple complex and left with ornaments worth lakhs of rupees.

According to temple sources, Goddess Tara Tarini was bathed with 108 jugs of water as part of the ‘Maha Snana’ ritual, amid chanting of mantras by attendants.

Earlier, the women members of the servants’ families gathered on the banks of the Rushikulya river after which certain rituals were performed. Later, 108 water jugs were brought from the river to the temple to perform the ‘Maha Snana’ rituals of the Goddess.

After completing all the rituals, the devotees were allowed to have darshan of the Goddess.

“Following the unfortunate incident, Tara Tarini’s ‘Maha Snana’ ritual was performed praying for the betterment of the world and Ganjam,” said a temple servant.

The theft from the temple came to light when some servants reached the temple in the morning and found the main gate locks and metal grates broken.

Later, the head priest of the temple informed that the miscreants had disembarked with various silver ornaments and other valuables.
