SUNBURY — The nonprofit association that represents mink ranchers in the United States says it is “shocked” by the bail changes for two people accused of releasing nearly 700 mink from a Northumberland County fur farm.

The U.S. Fur Commission, in a statement Thursday, said allowing two Massachusetts residents to pay 10 percent of their $150,000 bail and removing protective conditions sends a troubling message.

the county Judge Paige Rosini modified the bail Wednesday for Christopher Jacob Legere, 25, of Brighton, and Cara Ashley Mitrano, 27, of Worcester.
