Investigation continues after shooting with police at Independence Apartments

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) – Community members were urged to avoid the area near an Independence apartment complex after law enforcement officials were involved in a shooting.

Around 3pm on Thursday 7th November Independence Police Department asked the community to avoid the area of ​​Larkspur and M 291 Frontage Rd. as a shooting investigation continues.

Department leaders noted that law enforcement officers were involved in the shooting. The involved police investigation team was dispatched in response.

Just before 7 p.m., the Independence Police Department said two people died in the incident, which happened around 1:45 p.m. IPD said officers were initially called to the area for a domestic disturbance call.

The involved police investigation team is now investigating. It’s a group of detectives from Eastern Jackson County law enforcement agencies.

KCTV5 news crews at the scene observed police turning vehicles around at the Oval Spring Apartments. Residents are required to enter the complex.

The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office he also said he would play a role in the investigation. Until witness interviews and evidence are reviewed, the agency will not issue any comment.

“We will move forward with our review as quickly as possible,” said a spokesman for the Prosecutor’s Office. “Condolences to those involved and their families.”
