Suspect arrested in Georgia bank robbery

ROANOKE, Ala. (WTVM) – An arrest has been made in connection with a string of Georgia bank robberies that began last month in LaGrange.

Following a Nov. 1 robbery at an AmerisBank branch in Newnan, law enforcement obtained a description of the suspect’s vehicle. Police reported that a man, disguised as a previous robber, handed a note to a teller and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

The suspect, Mark Carr, was arrested the same day in Roanoke, Alabama. A subsequent search of his home and vehicle turned up numerous pieces of evidence, according to police.

That incident followed a Halloween robbery at a PNC Bank on Lafayette Parkway in LaGrange, where a man allegedly entered wearing a wig, sunglasses, a surgical mask and gloves. He produced a note and an envelope but left the bank without taking any money, police said.

The initial robbery occurred Oct. 12 at the Synovus Bank on Greenwood Street in LaGrange, where the suspect allegedly demanded cash from a teller before fleeing on foot.

Carr is currently being held in Randolph County pending extradition. He faces one count of robbery and one count of attempted robbery for the LaGrange incidents.

Authorities urge anyone with information about this investigation to contact the LaGrange Police Department at 706-883-2603 or Troup County Crime Stoppers at 706-812-1000.
