INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) – Two men were taken into custody after a late night shootout with the Independence Police Department during a brief pursuit.

The Independence, Missouri Police Department says that around 11 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 6, law enforcement attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation near Truman and Noland Rd., near the Roger T. Sermon Community Center.

However, investigators noted that the driver refused to stop, prompting a brief pursuit. During this time, several shots were fired from the suspect vehicle. Although no one was hit by gunfire, police vehicles and headlights were.

Law enforcement officials indicated that the suspect driver went off the road where his vehicle crashed into a tree. Two men got out of the car and tried to run, but both were quickly caught. Consequently, no injuries were reported.

Independence Police said the investigation is ongoing. No other information, including the identities of the two people, has been released.
