WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man was found dead Wednesday afternoon inside a pickup truck at the Arkansas River Canoe Launch in the 3500 block of East 71st Street South near Derby.

The sheriff’s office said deputies responded to the area shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday and “were directed to a heavily wooded area where they located the pickup truck and the body.”

The sheriff’s office identified the man found dead in the truck as Shane D. Watts, 54, of the Wichita area.

“Preliminary observations show no signs of trauma to his body and the cause of death remains under investigation. The investigation will continue pending the results of an autopsy and toxicology tests,” the sheriff’s office said.
