Cleveland police go to Columbus to make street takeover arrests

CLEVELAND — A new unit formed by the Cleveland Police Division last month, the Street Takeover Taskforce, arrested four people Thursday morning in Columbus for allegedly being part of Cleveland street takeovers in September.

The arrests were made with Columbus police, the US Marshals Service, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Cleveland FBI office, the Cincinnati FBI office and the Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Task Force.

According to Cleveland Police, these four individuals below were arrested and charged for street picketing on September 28th and 29th.

  • Sayvion Lewis, 22, arrested for: Aggravated Riot/Tampering Evidence/Disruption of Public Service/Possession of Criminal Instruments/Failure to Comply.
  • Cameron Parsley, 22, arrested for: Aggravated Riot/Tampering Evidence/Disrupting Public Service/Possession of Criminal Instruments/Failure to Comply.
  • William Whitted, 25, arrested for: Aggravated Riot/ Disruption of Public Service/ Possession of Criminal Instruments.
  • Deshawn Crane, 28, arrested for: Aggravated Riot/ Disruption of Public Service/ Possession of Criminal Instruments/ Tampering with Evidence.

Cleveland police said all four people are from the Columbus area. Additionally, during the arrests, authorities seized a handgun and impounded four vehicles as part of the investigation.

Cleveland Police Chief Annie Todd said in a statement: “Since this investigation began, our primary focus has been to conduct a thorough investigation and make arrests in order to build a case that will hold up in court. Today’s arrests highlight our commitment to this investigation and the effectiveness of this approach. We are grateful for the partnership with the US Marshals, Ohio State Patrol, FBI and Columbus Police Department, who continue to support our mission. to keep our streets safe.”

The task force, announced by Todd last month, was created to target people involved in the street takeovers that have plagued the city in recent months.

During another street takeover on September 15, dozens of people blocked traffic, got out of their vehicles to dance in the street or set fire to the street in Playhouse Square.

In perhaps the most terrifying incident during the September 28-29 street takeover, a party bus with 12 people on board was met by a masked mob that stopped traffic on Interstate 90.
