ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith told “The View” co-hosts he wasn’t surprised by the outcome of the 2024 election, saying President-elect Donald Trump’s victory was clear “a mile away.”

“I was surprised by how unbalanced it was. I wasn’t surprised by the result. I saw the result coming from a mile away. You have to keep in mind, listen, we respect our president Joe Biden, but here’s the reality. He. He promised that he’s going to be a transition president, that he’s going to clear the way for someone else to come on board,” Smith said, noting the Democrats’ 2022 semester

Smith went on to describe the state of the Democratic Party after the president decided to stay in office, which set off a chain of events that led to Kamala Harris being replaced on the ticket and her defeat at the hands of Trump.

“When he decided to stay, the Democrats were in a quandary because they expected him to leave,” he continued. “They’re around him, they see that his fastball has dissipated somewhat, they see that it’s not what it used to be. And what do you do with it? Lubricate skids. You let him take the stage on June 27th and clearly he was exposed… And then Kamala Harris is brought in, I don’t blame her, I thought she did a phenomenal job.

ESPN HOST STEPHEN A. SMITH FURIOUS AT HARRIS AVOIDING INTERVIEWS: ‘What are you hiding for?

Smith argued that Harris did her best, but argued that independents were not swayed by her because she was the current vice president and did not face primary competition.

“You have people who are independents — I’m not talking about the right or the left, just independents who say, wait a minute, she didn’t make it through the primary either. The last time I saw her in the primary was four years ago, and she didn’t even make it to Iowa. They used that as an excuse to point to her level of inexperience with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Hamas and Hezbollah and all that stuff,” he said, before pointing out Trump’s criticism of Harris.

Smith has also taken aim recently Harris’ celebrity endorsements.

“Ultimately, celebrities worth hundreds of millions, if not billions, who most American citizens feel are incredibly detached from their way of life and their quality of life, were not going to get away and convince them to do something different. than what their experience says is happening and what they should do about it,” Smith said on a recent episode of his show.

He then played a clip of Oprah Winfrey saying that a win for Trump could mean they would never vote again.

“This is the kind of thing that alienates an electorate, alienates a voter,” Smith said. “Because the freedom you tell them you have, you’re trying to morally confiscate by letting them know you’re worth nothing unless you vote the way we say you should vote. Who will go for it in the general election? With an economy rife with inflation, with over 12 million people crossing the border … the value of their dollars is being dissipated right before our eyes.”
