The Sarpy County Sheriff will provide an update on the incident that left the Omaha teacher dead

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Sarpy County Sheriff Jeff Davis is holding a news conference Thursday morning to share more details about the death of a Westside special education teacher in a domestic violence incident that ended in a shootout.

Deputies found Rebecca Geiger, 45, dead in her Chalco Hills home after shots were fired near South 143rd Street and Meadows Parkway in the early morning hours.

Authorities said Geiger’s 19-year-old daughter called 911 telling operators that her father, Rory Geiger, 44, had shot her mother — and that he had a gun pointed at her .

Deputies then entered the home and found Rory Geiger deceased.

6 The news was first on the scene that morning. The couple’s two daughters were in the home when the shooting began. Officials said the girls could have been in serious trouble.

Deputies found several guns in the home. Authorities had been to the home about a month earlier for an incident and were told not to return.

Investigators looked at body cameras worn by deputies, as well as cameras inside and outside the home. Previously, they were unsure if Rory Geiger’s fatal wounds were self-inflicted or from a shot fired by a Sarpy County deputy.

Five deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, authorities say. None of them were injured.

Rebecca Geiger was a special education teacher who had just started her 10th year at Westside High School.

“She was just a really good teacher,” Elizabeth Power said Westdside Community Schools. “She was so good at helping her students feel very seen and very loved and like they were here at Westside High School, which is such an important thing for any student, especially her students.”
