There are lots of resources available to help people recover Hurricane Milton.

Many people think about Federal Emergency Management Agency when thinking about hurricane relief, but other agencies are also providing help, Volusia County spokesman Clayton Jackson said.

“At the end of the day, it’s just us trying to find whatever resources are available that could help our residents in recovery because we understand that everyone may have been affected differently,” he said.

One way to help make sense of it all is to use the Volusia Helps website or app, which provides up-to-date information on disaster relief and other community services. go to vcservices.vcgov.org/VolusiaHelps for information. The application is available for Apple and Android dispozitive.

FEMA disaster recovery centers to open in Volusia

Volusia residents can get help applying for FEMA assistance at a Volusia County Disaster Recovery Center. Representatives from FEMA, the US Small Business Administration and the Red Cross will be there to help.

The first Disaster Recovery Center will operate daily from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., November 12 through November 19, at the John H. Dickerson Community Center at 308 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd in Daytona Beach. The second disaster recovery center will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 21 through Nov. 27 at the Deltona Center at 1640 Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd.

People can request help online at disasterassistance.govthrough the FEMA mobile app or by calling 800-621-3362.

Disaster loans are available from the Small Business Administration

Homeowners, renters, businesses and private nonprofits in Volusia County can apply for disaster loans from the Small Business Administration to deal with losses caused by Hurricane Milton.

“These loans are designed to help repair or replace real estate, machinery, equipment, inventory and other business assets damaged by the disaster,” according to the county government. “Businesses and nonprofits of all sizes can qualify for loans of up to $2 million.”

Small businesses, agricultural cooperatives, aquaculture enterprises, and most private nonprofit organizations can also apply for economic injury disaster loans to “help meet working capital needs,” even without sustaining property damage during the storm .

Claimants must submit claims for property damage by December 10 and economic damage by July 11, 2025.

Help pay off your FHA-insured mortgage

Homeowners in Volusia County who have a mortgage loan insured by the Federal Housing Administration may qualify for help if they are struggling to make payments due to Hurricane Milton.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development encourages people to contact their lenders to discuss what help is available, according to the county. Options could include, among other things, deferring or stopping foreclosure actions for up to 90 days and loan waiver plans.

People with any type of mortgage can get free foreclosure prevention counseling through HUD. Call 800-569-4287 or use HUD’s online locator to find a counseling agency.

For information, homeowners with FHA-insured mortgages can call the FHA Resource Center at 800-304-9320.

Hurricane recovery grants available for small businesses

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation is offering $5,000 Small Business Hurricane Recovery Grants to Volusia County businesses that suffered physical damage or economic loss due to Hurricane Milton.

Funds can be used to pay for things like rent, utilities, payroll, inventory and equipment. Applications must be in by 11:59pm on November 17th. For information, go to uschamberfoundation.org and look for small business hurricane recovery grants.

Help is available for loss of income

Disaster unemployment assistance is available in Volusia County for individuals and businesses whose employment or self-employment was affected by Hurricane Milton. This is for people who are not eligible for federal or state reemployment assistance benefits. To receive help, people must meet one of the following criteria:

  • They became unemployed as a direct result of the storm.
  • They were scheduled to begin hiring, but were unable to as a direct result of the storm.
  • They cannot get to work or work independently because they must travel through an affected area and are prevented from doing so as a direct result of the storm.
  • They became the main supporter because the head of the household died as a direct result of the storm.
  • They are unable to work due to an injury that was a direct result of the storm.

People have until December 10 to submit their claims. To file a claim, go to floridajobs.orggo to a local CareerSource Center or call 800-385-3920.

Food assistance available in Volusia

People who are not already receiving benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program may qualify for help if they were affected by Hurricane Milton. There are financial eligibility limits and other criteria.

Volusia residents can pre-register at myflfamilies.com/dsnap between November 11 and November 15.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is another resource. For information access feedhopenow.org or call 386-257-4499.

Funding available to repair private roads and bridges

Volusia residents can get help paying for the repair and replacement of private roads or bridges damaged by Hurricane Milton. Funding is available through the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the US Small Business Administration.

Help available for well or septic system damage from Hurricane Milton

People whose private well or septic system was damaged in Hurricane Milton may qualify for help from FEMA to pay for the repair or replacement of the system. FEMA can also reimburse people for the cost of a licensed technician’s estimate to repair or replace the system.

Do the laundry and take a shower

People who want to do laundry, take a shower or use the bathroom have a place of refuge. They can use the 24-hour convenience station at 401 Stone Island Road in Enterprise. Two other convenience stations in Pierson and DeLand closed due to low demand. Florida state and Volusia County officials launched the comfort stations.
