Peugeot E-2008 GT long-term test: the SUV’s range will leave you scratching your head

  • Mileage: 3,811
  • Efficiency: 4.1 miles/kWh

The idea of the “perfect two-car garage” often comes up in conversation around the Auto Express office. Some of my colleagues prefer something big and practical alongside a small and sporty model, while others refuse to admit they’ll ever spend time in traffic or rough roads and clearly won’t be visiting the tip or a builders merchant . It seems that many are (theoretically) prepared to live with a pair of stripped down race cars, day in and day out.

But if I had to choose two cars to live with from now until the end of time, I know exactly which way I’d go. It’s a solution that caught my eye during my time with the Peugeot E-2008. It might not be perfect for long highway jaunts, but as something to jump in and Monday through Friday to commute to the office or airport, it’s ideal.

However, the real benefit of driving such a simple car day in and day out was getting into my classic 2002 BMW on the weekends. Electric driving Peugeot it makes my 70 year old salon feel so raw and analog; the heavy steering, manual gearbox and total lack of comfort means it’s not necessarily a car to go to the shops, but to enjoy on high days and holidays.

This is not to do a disservice to Peugeot. I love how easy it is to park, the impressive efficiency and even the large boot which, with the parcel shelf removed, swallowed everything we needed for a glamping weekend before my daughter started school last week.
