Rainy day and cooler temperatures

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) – A cold front moved into eastern Kentucky yesterday, bringing much needed rain. Today, those rain chances continue, with temperatures for much of the area much cooler in the upper 60s and 70s.

HEADLINES:

  • rainy thursday
  • Falling cold front temperatures, but…
  • Above normal temperatures persist

DISCUSSION:

Yesterday’s rain will continue on Thursday with a 40% chance of rain. Those chances will be mostly before 4pm, with light showers lingering until 1am on Friday. The rain will take a break Friday, leaving mostly sunny skies, but the rain will return Saturday afternoon and continue into Monday.

Temperatures today will be much cooler than yesterday in the 70s. You can expect upper 60s and low 70s. Some locations in our area that didn’t get much rain yesterday and won’t see much rain today could see temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. The trend for temperatures in the upper 60s and 70s will continue through Wednesday.

Looking ahead:

As we move into next week, we can expect warmer than average temperatures to continue. Temperatures are normally in the 60s this time of year, and we’ll stay warmer than that into next week and possibly beyond.

Rain chances will also be above average for this time of year. This will have a large impact on our fire danger season if sufficient rainfall is present.
