Two men arrested on fishing boats now charged with alleged human trafficking offences

Two men arrested on fishing boats have been charged with human trafficking offences.

A 50-year-old man was arrested from a boat off the coast of Mallaig and a 38-year-old man was arrested from a boat off the coast of Tarbet during a pre-planned operation on Tuesday 5 November .

Both men have been charged and reports will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Detective Inspector Craig Faulds said: “Human trafficking and modern slavery takes place in our communities and this operation demonstrates our commitment to tackling this problem.

“We are working closely with our partners to identify situations where this crime is taking place and to provide adequate support to victims. However, we cannot do this alone.

“If you suspect that modern slavery is happening in your community, it is vital that you report it and enable us to protect victims and take action against those responsible for this exploitation.”
