Enjoy Munnar in a Seaplane from Bolgatty to Mattupetty | Travel

Munnar: The mega tourism project that allows visitors to enjoy the majestic beauty of the Western Ghats from the sky will be launched soon. The initial inspections for starting a seaplane service in the Mattupetty barrage have been completed. Meanwhile, the test flight would be carried out in a week. The first test flight would take off from the Bolgatty Palace in Kochi. Seaplanes that can take off and land on land and water can accommodate up to eight passengers. Tourists can enjoy the scintillating natural beauty of Munnar from the sky as seaplanes have larger windows than regular planes. The authorities are planning to build the aerodrome on the water near the jetty at Mattupetty dam.
An expert panel of officials comprising a director from the Airports Authority of India, a chief dam safety engineer, CIAL officials and officers from the electricity department conducted the inspections at the proposed Mattupetty dam site. They found the region perfect for seaplane service. A new round of inspections by senior officials from the Forestry Directorate followed.
