Border Patrol Officer Accused of Extorting Sex from Traveler | News

A US Customs and Border Patrol officer is accused of using his position to coerce a woman he met during an airport screening to have sex with him multiple times under the threat of deportation, according to a news release from the Guam Police Department and a magistrate’s complaint filed. in the Superior Court.

He also allegedly took $5,100 from her, telling a tourist in possession that much of the money was suspicious.

Myeongsu Kim, also known as Jason Kim, 34, was charged Thursday with three counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct as a second-degree felony, official misconduct as a felony and theft by threatening as a crime.

When the woman arrived in Guam on August 5, an officer at an airport immigration checkpoint sent her for a secondary inspection.

She said she was told she looked like a model and officials wanted to know if she would work in Guam. Kim was brought in as an interpreter and told he could take her through immigration, according to the complaint.

When he asked her what she would give him in return, she asked if she wanted money. He said he’d think about it, went off to do some paperwork, and later came back and said he’d taken care of it.

She asked again if he wanted money, and he said he never wanted money, according to the complaint. He told her that she would have to be his sex partner for the two months he would be on Guam. Shocked, she asked if she could pay him instead.

He told her she had no choice and could return to Korea if she didn’t agree, according to the complaint.

Later that night, Kim called her and reminded her of the deal, saying she saw her underwear in her luggage and liked the bra size. He said he would contact her later, and if she did not comply she would be arrested and deported, the complaint states.

About a week later, Kim contacted the woman and told her that if she did not have sex with him, he would cause problems for her family members. He picked her up, stopped to buy condoms and took her to the Hafa Adai motel and had sex with her. He then brought her home and said he would be in touch again.

He allegedly called her two more times, including once when he was on break from work at the airport, and brought her to the hotel for sex, the complaint states.

The woman eventually told her boyfriend, who wanted to confront Kim, but the woman was afraid because Kim was a government official. She told her boyfriend that Kim took $5,100 from her and eventually demanded the money back. At first he returned $1,000, and then she demanded all the money back, saying what he did was illegal. He returned all but $458.17.

Kim told the woman she better marry her boyfriend or never step foot on American soil again, and he said if she ever tried to get through immigration, he would catch her.

On October 31, Kim, dressed in his uniform, met relatives of the woman’s boyfriend at a store and showed him his badge. She spoke to the boyfriend and told him the allegations had been reported. Kim said he was suffering repercussions at work, so he “would work with his attorney to destroy (the woman’s) credibility by painting her as a prostitute,” the complaint said.

Kim was arrested Wednesday morning and booked into the Department of Corrections.
