Woman beaten after Lincoln gas station employee suffers mental breakdown, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A 22-year-old woman was injured in a random attack by an employee at a Lincoln gas station Wednesday morning, Lincoln police said.

Officers responded to the U station near 84th Street and Cornhusker Highway around 4:40 a.m. after learning the woman had been assaulted in the gas station bathroom. Police said the employee was experiencing a mental health crisis at the time of the attack.

When he got out of the bathroom, he injured himself and was hospitalized for those injuries. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries to his face and head.

The 40-year-old suspect is in jail and was cited and arrested for third-degree assault and attempted assault by strangulation.

U-Stop said it is working with LPD to prevent incidents like this from happening again.
