New online portal allows Monroe County residents to report dangerous roads and intersections

ROCHESTER, NY — Monroe County just launched a new online portal where residents can report the exact location of what they think is the most dangerous intersection or stretch of road.

In the past 10 years, over five northbound blocks, 15 pedestrians have been struck by cars on North Clinton Avenue in Upper Falls. 10 were hit while cycling.

This is what the Reconnect Rochester Accident Map shows. The breakdown shows that an average of 47 people are killed on the streets and roads of Monroe County each year. More than 5,000 are injured.

The new website is where residents can fill in where they think needs changing, whether it’s adding a crosswalk, a sidewalk or slowing down traffic. The portal started with County Executive Adam Bello and the new County Road Safety Committee.

“You know our neighborhoods better than anyone, right? People who live in neighborhoods in the county know their neighborhoods best. You know the areas where speed is an issue. You know where cross roads are missing and where intersections just feel unsafe,” Bello said.

At the press conference, the death of A 6-year-old boy, RJ Grantham, was highlighted. His death inspired a change in traffic

Residents can fill out the traffic portal right now through this link. Every three months, the Road Safety Committee will review submissions and accident reports to identify seats that need to be changed.
