PROVIDENCE, RI (WLNE) — A Providence man was sentenced Nov. 1 after being convicted of shot a man in the leg during an attempted robberyaccording to the office of Attorney General Peter F. Neronha.

Jashua Adames Torres, 24, will serve 13 years in ACI followed by 22 years of probation after a hearing in Providence County Superior Court.

Torres was found guilty of a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon, one count of discharging a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence, one count of carrying a handgun without a permit and one count of shooting in a compacted area.

The incident occurred on July 23, 2022, when Providence Police responded to a call on Hartford Avenue at approximately 4:36 am.

The victim informed police that he was the target of an attempted robbery by unknown parties.

A trail of blood was observed by police leading to Bodell Avenue, where other officers had located four male subjects, including Torres.

The subjects told officers that an argument had occurred but refused to cooperate further.

The Providence Public Housing Authority provided video later in the day of Torres and the victim arguing, after which Torres pulled out a gun and fired.

Torres was arrested the next day.
