Monroe County deputy saves woman from train tracks

A Monroe County sheriff’s deputy pulled a woman to safety from the train tracks Tuesday, officials said.

The 67-year-old woman was lying on railroad tracks Tuesday on Alban Road near South Telegraph Road in Monroe Township in an apparent suicide attempt, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.

Emergency dispatchers dispatched deputies to the area around 2:04 p.m

Deputy Alec Preadmore saw the railroad gates lower and a southbound train speeding toward the woman upon his arrival, according to the release.

Preadmore pulled the woman to safety before the train passed.

Emergency personnel took the woman to the hospital for further medical care.

A total of 1,482 people committed suicide in Michigan in 2021, according to a 2023 annual report from the Michigan Commission on Suicide Prevention. Of these deaths, 80% of suicides were male and 55% of all suicides were firearm-related.
