Jason Kelce talk about the time when he hacked a Penn State football fan’s phone because he called his brother Travis Kelcea homophobic slur.

In now-viral footage distributed on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, November 2 retired Philadelphia Eagles starThe 37-year-old — who was outside Beaver Stadium in State College, Pa., for the Penn State-Ohio State game — reacted after the man called Travis “a f—– date Taylor Swift.”

On the last episode of The Brothers New heights podcast that aired on Wednesday, November 6, Jason expressed regret for even saying the word after he was seen standing in front of the man and saying: “Who the f—– now?” in viral clips.

Travis began on the podcast, “I know you wanted to clear some of the air, so go ahead,” to which Jason responded, “I’m just going to address that, I feel like he needs one more time and then hopefully we can stop. talking about this really stupid situation.”

The father-of-three – who first addressed the incident on November 4 on ESPN Monday night countdown — added: “I’m not happy with the situation, my reaction gave him the time of day and also gave the situation notoriety. I regret that. It didn’t deserve attention, it’s really stupid… if I just keep going, it’s a hamburger freak, no one sees it. Now, it’s out there and it just perpetuates more hate.

Jason insisted that “the thing I regret the most is saying that word, to be honest with you… the word he used is just f—— ridiculous and it takes it to another level. f—— over the line.”

“It’s dehumanizing and it got under my skin, it caused a reaction. In the heat of the moment, I thought, “Hey, what can I say back to him? I’m going to throw that right back at him. Do— him,” the athlete said, admitting he now knows he “shouldn’t have done that.”

“What I regret is that now there’s a video that’s really ugly that’s now online that’s been seen by millions of people and I share the mistake of perpetuating it and having that out there,” Jason told listeners.

Travis had nothing but praise for his brother, insisting that people “going through the videos” created a “bigger situation than I think it really is.”

Following Saturday’s incident involving an unidentified college football fan, PEOPLE confirmed Penn State University police have launched an investigation.

PEOPLE reached out to representatives for both Jason and ESPN at the time, but did not immediately hear back.
