In-person voters in Hawaii face long lines with 3-hour wait times on Election Day

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Voters in Hawaii who opted to vote in person flocked to voter service centers on Election Day, facing long lines and hours-long wait times – even despite the rainy weather .

On Oahu, both Honolulu Hale and Kapolei Hale saw wait times between one and three hours.

First-time voter Jakob Santiago, who was in line at Honolulu Hale, said he waited just over an hour.

“Honestly, really long,” Santiago said. “And it was very hot. But we got here, we’re in front now, so it’s all good.”

Kaira Baltazar, another first-time voter, said it’s been a long process, but it’s all been worth it.

“I thought it was important, just with everything going on in the world, and I thought it was important to vote and make a difference,” Baltazar said.

Kapolei resident Tammie Atimalala was shocked by the wait times at Kapolei Hale.

Hawaii voters who chose to cast their ballots in person flocked to voter service centers on Election Day, facing long lines and hours-long wait times.

“It’s ridiculous,” she said. “I’ve been here for two hours. I timed it, you can add 20 minutes. But that’s crazy.”

Those who voted in person told Hawaii News Now they either wanted to vote the old fashioned way or to make sure their vote was counted.

Long lines and wait times were also reported at voter service centers on neighboring islands, including Kauai, Maui and the island of Hawaii.
