Area schools will honor veterans during planned Veterans Day | activities News, Sports, Jobs


JEFFERSON COUNTY — Area schools will recognize Veterans Day with a series of events planned for Monday.

At Edison Local, John Gregg Elementary will host its annual breakfast at 8:40 a.m., followed by an assembly that includes special music. All area veterans are invited to attend.

Edison High School will hold its 35th annual Veterans Day assembly at 10 a.m., featuring patriotic music, messages and speakers including Tony Kovalesky, David Schultz and Andy Lesnansky and members of the Richmond American Legion Post 740.

Stanton Elementary will welcome past service members to the school auditorium at 1:30 p.m. Students will share presentations that include music and messages.

Hills Elementary School in the Indian Creek Local School District will hold an assembly at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. A reception for veterans is planned, along with a program led by music teacher Aimee Simpson-Carroll, Student Senate Advisor Ashley Turnbull and Principal Erin Alloggia.

The school choir will sing patriotic songs and members of the Student Senate will give readings.
