Cornwall Research Center created by the University of Exeter

A Devon university has set up a new research center in Cornwall, focused on delivering research into climate change and its impact on health.

The £10m centre, known as The Net Positive Center for Health and Climate Solutions and created by the University of Exeter, will tackle climate-environment-health inequalities at every stage of life.

The funding was provided by UK Research and Innovation with the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), the National Trust, Forest Research and the Met Office among some of the partner organizations to be involved.

The center is already fully operational with researchers from Penryn University campus.

Topics to be explored by researchers include sunstroke, the link between air pollution and coronary heart disease, and the increased likelihood of new pandemics.

Professor Tim Taylor, from the University of Exeter, said: “The Net Positive Center for Health and Climate Solutions will gather evidence on emerging risks and opportunities, work with communities to create responses and inform policy to improve community health and wellbeing from all over the world. Great Britain and beyond.”

Prof Lisa Roberts, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Exeter, added: “We are delighted that UKRI has chosen the University of Exeter to lead this vitally important centre.

“It’s a testament to the globally recognized expertise of our teams.”
