Deputy’s profit goes down as unicorn increases employment

Deputy, a Sydney-based start-up worth more than $1 billion, has increased spending on senior executives and software engineers, causing its profit to fall 68% from 8.5 million to $2.7 million last financial year.

Backed by local venture capital funds Square Peg and EVP, Deputy makes software used by shift workers to manage their rosters for companies like IGA, Subway, F45 and Gloria Jeans. Last year, it launched HR tools to help organizations hire and onboard workers quickly.
