How Election Day 2024 and the Weather Affected Local Business

MONROE-WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE) – Rep. Leslie Lawson Caillouet with the Ouachita Parish Clerk went to various polling places Tuesday (November 5) morning.

For many precincts, 300-400 voters were registered by afternoon. KNOE reporter Kenya Ross visited downtown West Monroe to see if any local businesses saw any difference in foot traffic due to Election Day and the rain.

“I mean, really, it’s no different than any other day … of them shopping,” said owner Jessica Pollard of Eleven 26 Boutique. “So we had good foot traffic today. I know it’s a Tuesday and it’s raining – it’s election day, but today we’ve also been busy in retail, every day is different.”

Another business along the same strip said this Tuesday was no ordinary Tuesday.

“It’s an atypical Tuesday. Tuesday is usually a very busy day for the shop, but with the rain and school being out and people voting, there was not the usual traffic on Antique Alley today,” said Charlotte Breard, known as the Tuesday Shop Girl for Traditions in Trenton. Antiquity. Even though the store hasn’t seen the usual foot traffic, Breard said they are still fulfilling online orders.

After 5 p.m., Caillouet said polling stations began to see an increase in voters, with one constituency almost reaching 100 percent turnout.
