Man on fire, manifest arrested at Capitol visitor center: officials

US Police arrest man who smelled of fuel and was carrying a flashlight and flare gun at the Capitol Visitor Center in DC

According to the police, the man was stopped during their screening process at the Capitol Visitor Center. Police say the center is closed to tours for the day while the investigation continues.

The suspect was described as a white male adult in his 20s. Officers tracked the suspect’s previous movements and located his vehicle at 9th and Maryland Avenue, NE.

FOX News Chief Congressional Correspondent Chad Pergram reports the suspect had a 25-page manifesto and drove all night from Michigan to the Capitol.

Fox is told US Capitol Police arrested a suspect at the Capitol Visitor Center screening center around noon, according to congressional security sources.

Officials say his clothes smelled of fuel and his clothes were wet. The Capitol Police immediately found this out and arrested him. The suspect’s clothes were removed immediately. He also had a flashlight, a flare gun and other flammable liquids with him in a backpack.

A top source told Fox they are not sure if the suspect intended to kill himself. Fox is also said to have had anti-government and anti-Israel statements in his manifesto. Fox is told this suspect appears to be acting alone and was not on the USCP radar.

According to officials, it is unclear at this time what the suspects’ intentions were.
