Silvi man charged after trying to rob businesses, threatening to shoot employee

DAVENPORT, Iowa. (KWQC) – Officials say a Silvis man is facing charges after he tried to rob a Brinks in Davenport and threatened to shoot an employee.

Cesar Castillo, 22, was booked into the Scott County Jail Monday morning on charges of second-degree robbery, a Class C felony; first degree harassment, aggravated misdemeanor; public intoxication, a simple misdemeanor; and interfering with official documents, a simple misdemeanor.

Court records show Castillo was also cited for trespassing.

A judge set his bond Monday at $5,000 cash only. A preliminary hearing is set for November 14.

According to an arrest affidavit:

Monday at 5:42 a.m. Davenport police responded to a robbery in the 1700 block of West 2nd Street.

Officials said an employee was standing in the back of the business when Castillo approached him and told him he knew there was money inside.

Castillo then told the employee to bring a Brinks truck to the back of the business and open the doors to the business. Officials said Castillo told the employee he would shoot him if he didn’t give him money.

The employee then tried to pull Castillo away and told him to leave the property, but officials said he refused.

Police said Castillo, who was shirtless, was found on a sidewalk on the east side of the business and was positively identified by the employee.

According to an arrest affidavit, a surveillance video from the business shows Castillo entering the business and approaching the employee.

Officials said Castillo told police he was intoxicated and refused a preliminary breath test. He also refused to give his name to officers several times.

Castillo is charged with second-degree robbery, a Class C felony, as well as three felonies.
