Judge Mathis he’s a man of his word about it marriage. In August, he told TMZ he would get his wife back after she filed for divorce a month earlier, and the 64-year-old has done just that. During a more recent interview with TMZ, Mathis gave an update on his marriage and said it’s on the mend.

“I think what happens sometimes in life, God has to break you down, pick you up and put you on another mission,” he explained. “Like a street kid, he went to jail, he got out. I had a mission to help street children. And I have. For 25 years. Now, I’m on a mission to help Black love.” The TV personality added jokingly: “And this is not for television. We kiss all the time, y’all.”

When the reporter asked if the judge “came out of the box,” he replied:

“That’s for her to say, but I think so.” But I won’t be arrogant enough and cocky enough to speak for her.”

Linda’s words were few, but they hinted that they were on better terms. “We’re here right now together,” she said as Mathis concluded. It speaks for itself.”

The Mathis have had it a long time — they’ve been married for 39 years. They married on June 1, 1985, and over the years built a family that included four children: Jade, Camara, Greg Jr. and Amir. The whole family got together recently for Greg Mathis Jr.’s wedding to his longtime partner Elliot Cooper in Cabo San Lucas. The judge officiated the wedding ceremony alongside Elliot’s father, Sergeant Calvin Cooper, on October 21.

What caused the break in the long-term couple’s marriage? Mathis said he spends too much time jet-setting without his wife.

“Maybe I’ll be an example to another man—a cautionary tale. Don’t neglect your wife. … This is how it goes, guys,” the judge said in September. “Neglect can create suspicion, for sure,” he added, addressing rumors that he had left his wife. “If you’ve been gone as long as I have, you have every right to suspect.”

These two are a reminder that relationships break, but they don’t have to be broken for good. Here’s hoping black love prevails in this case.
