An ATM apartment building in Berks was destroyed in an attempted burglary involving heavy equipment

Central Berks Regional Police are investigating an unusual burglary, with the suspect likely narrowed down to someone who knows how to operate heavy construction equipment.

Around 2:20 a.m. Saturday, police were dispatched to an alarm at the Truist Bank ATM at 1121 Memorial Highway near Dunkin Donuts in the Village of Oley.

When officers arrived, they encountered a front-end loader with the engine running but no operator. The small brick building that housed the ATM was overturned.

They determined that the unidentified operator knocked over the building in an attempt to remove the ATM, but gave up on activating the alarm.

Police processed the charger for evidence. They are canvassing the area for security camera footage, but have yet to identify a suspect.

Anyone who may have video footage or any tips that may assist in the investigation is asked to call the Central Berks Regional Police Department at 610-77-1100.
