I-70 reopens near Vail Pass after multiple crashes

DENVER (KDVR) — Eastbound and westbound Interstate 70 were closed near Vail Pass Sunday afternoon as heavy snow blanketed the road, and the Colorado Department of Transportation reported at least one accident.

According to CDOT, westbound was closed from Vail Pass Summit (Exit 190) to East Vail (Exit 180), about three miles west of Copper Mountain. The interstate was also closed eastbound between exits 180 and 190.

The interstate was also closed westbound at Eisenhower Tunnel between Exit 216 (Loveland Pass) and exit 205 (seven miles east of Silverthorne). However, the area was cleared and reopened before 6pm

The Colorado State Patrol said troopers were called to westbound I-70 near Copper Mountain around 2:40 p.m. The agency said it did not yet know how many vehicles were involved in the crash, but no serious injuries were reported.
