FIRST WEATHER ALERT: Election day forecast

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) – Happy Election Day! Are you going to vote? With temperatures in the 70s and 80s and mostly sunny skies, it’s a great day to get outside and make your voice heard.

HEADLINES:

  • Abnormally warm temperatures
  • Election day mostly sunny and mostly dry
  • The rainy week ahead

ELECTION DAY DISCUSSIONS:

When the polls open this morning, temperatures will be in the mid to upper 60s with sunny skies. These temperatures will only increase throughout the day. If you vote during the lunch hour, temperatures will be in the low to mid 70s with sunny skies continuing. A very slight chance of rain will appear in the western counties around 2pm and disappear by 4pm. If you plan to go to the polls after work, expect temperatures around 4:00 PM to be in the upper 70s to low 80s with mostly sunny skies. After 4 p.m., temperatures will begin to cool, with mild, clear conditions in the mid-70s as the polls close.

A cold front will move into the area Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, bringing much needed rain to eastern Kentucky. Due to the timing of this event, rain shouldn’t be a problem for any votes today, so do your civic duty and vote!

Looking ahead:

Temperatures will drop after the front moves through the area, leaving temperatures in the mid-70s on Wednesday and in the upper 60s and 70s on Thursday. Rain chances extend from the front into your Thursday, and another wave of rain starts overnight Friday and could stick with Kentucky into next Friday.

Have a great election day!
