Marc Priestley spotted ‘very difficult’ problem at Alpine during factory visit ahead of double podium in Sao Paulo

Alpine team principal Oliver Oakes knew he had a job on his hands when he replaced Bruno Famin earlier this season.

The French constructor battled with Williams to avoid finishing ninth Constructors’ Championship this year.

Before Sao Paulo Grand Prix, Alpine They were losing that battle, but they weren’t really looking over their shoulders at the useless Sauber outfit.

Pierre Gasly gave Alpine hope that its latest set of upgrades had helped it take a step forward as it marked the race’s final point in Mexico City.

He improved that result again during Saturday’s sprint race after playing in qualifying, turning his 7th place start into a 7th place finish.

Then, probably the biggest race in Alpine history since their rebrand took place in a pouring rain on Sunday afternoon at Interlagos.

gaseous and Esteban Ocon they secured an incredible two-three finish behind Max Verstappen after avoiding mistakes during the race and nailing their strategy.

Mark Priestley was talking on his YouTube channel about Alpine after a visit to their factory in Enstone.

Flavio Briatore was calculating how much money Alpine could make from an incredible performance and Priestley shared the “very difficult” problem facing the team, which will be eased slightly by events in Brazil.

Speaking about the French team, Priestley said: “I have to give a big shout out to Alpine.

“I was actually there at the factory this week and saw how difficult things have been for Alpine lately.

“So many different struggles and different challenges that they faced trying to keep people motivated back at the base and within that race team was very difficult.

“Today will be one of the biggest noises those people in that team will ever get, amazing scenes.

“So I’m really happy for all those people, everyone on the track but also back at the base at Enstone, so well done to them.”

Jolyon Palmer has special praise for Esteban Ocon after the Sao Paulo Grand Prix

Gasly and Ocon will part ways at the end of the season, with Jack Doohan making his F1 debut in place of Ocon.

The 28-year-old heads to Haas to drive alongside Oliver Bearman and will be encouraged by the progress his new team has made.

Haas has been on top of the Alpine all season and seems to have made considerable strides forward with each new upgrade added to the car.

However, Alpine has now overtaken them in the standings with an extraordinary result that no one saw coming.

Jolyon Palmer named Ocon driver of the day despite Verstappen’s commanding victory.

It’s hard to argue with his logic given the car Ocon was driving and how at one point in the race he pulled away from the Dutchman before the final safety car.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t add to his only F1 win so far, which came in Hungary in 2021.

However, both drivers have shown that in the right car and in the right conditions they are simply world class and that will give those working at the factory plenty to celebrate, especially with Gasly staying with the team for 2025 and not only.
