Election workers spend Monday preparing for voters to head to the polls

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – If you didn’t vote earlier, you can vote at your polling station starting at six o’clock Tuesday morning.

Election workers spent the morning preparing mail-in ballots to be counted once the polls closed. And the voting machines were delivered to the 123 wards in Calcasieu.

A little voter training can go a long way. Make sure you bring your ID or driver’s license. It’s also important not to wear campaign paraphernalia because no campaigning is allowed within six hundred yards of a poll, as Clerk of Court Lynn Jones explains.

“No hats, no shirts, no buttons, no stickers. It’s against the law. We’ve had some problems with early voting not only here, but statewide. You will be asked to remove them, and if you don’t, we will call the authorities,” Jones said.

Another important rule, Jones says, except for law enforcement in uniform or on duty, no one can bring a gun to the polling station.

“There have been many questions about whether a person can carry a gun into the polling station and this is a no. It’s against the law. Even if you have a concealed carry permit,” he said.

If you think something is missing from the ballot, speak up before pressing the cast vote button.

“It’s too late. Once it’s cast, there’s nothing you can do about it,” Jones said.

Voters should know that some campaign signs are for next year’s elections, including Lake Charles mayor and council, so you won’t find them on Tuesday’s ballot. Five parishes vote for a judge in the Third Circuit, but not everyone in those parishes. votes in each race.

The polling stations close at eight o’clock on Tuesday. Anyone in line up to that point will be able to vote. For more information about the ballot or other election issues click here.
