Wet start expected on Election Day | FOX 26 Houston Weather Forecast

More hazards are being monitored for SE Texas as we are less than 24 hours away from Election Day. The Coastal Flood Advisory and a high risk of rip currents continues for our coastal communities due to windy conditions through early Tuesday. It will be windy through tonight with scattered showers and possibly a thunderstorm or two. However, a large line of storms is expected to pass through early Tuesday, Election Day, from 3:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. There is a low risk for a few severe storms, with the main threat being a few damaging wind gusts and large hail. Heavy rain will also be a risk which could lead to some streets flooding. The most active weather will be during the morning, with lower temperatures and light showers until the afternoon and evening. A few showers may persist for the rest of the week as temperatures warm into the 80s. In the Caribbean, Tropical Storm Rafael has formed and is forecast to become a hurricane by Wednesday. It will move over parts of Jamaica and Cuba before reaching the eastern Gulf of Mexico later this week. Right now, most models are weakening Rafael as it approaches the Gulf Coast and keeping it east of Texas.
