The replacement is expected to further delay a decision on possible warrants in the case dealing with the Gaza conflict, as the new judge will need time to recover files.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) announced on Friday that it will replace, for health reasons, one of the judges ruling on a prosecution request to issue an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a move that could cause further delays in the case.

In May, prosecutors sought warrants for Netanyahu and his defense minister, Yoav Gallant, as well as three Hamas leaders, saying there was good reason to believe the men had committed war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The ICC president said the judge presiding over the case, Romanian magistrate Iulia Motoc, asked to be replaced on Friday for health reasons and was immediately replaced by Slovenian ICC judge Beti Hohler.

The replacement is expected to further delay a decision on possible warrants in the case dealing with the Gaza conflict, as the new judge will need time to catch up on the files.
