Ohio official says he won’t help those who vote Democrat

Springfield, Ohio

A lieutenant with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office in Ohio made alarming social media posts suggesting he would refuse help from Democrats.

On October 20, lt. John Rodgers made a post on Facebook flatly claiming that he would not help the Democrats. His district notably includes Springfield, the city that gained national attention thanks to the former president’s baseless claims Donald Trump and its supporters about Haitian immigrants eating local pets.

“I’m sorry,” Rodgers said. “If you support the Democratic Party, I won’t help you.”

That post was one of several. In one, Rodgers simply said, “Kamala Harris represents SATAN.” In another, the lieutenant claimed he would make people “prove who you voted for if you ask me for help.”

“Guns and ammo are not cheap,” Rodgers added in the post.

He said in a fourth post that it “won’t help you survive the end of days.”

In response to the posts, Deputy Chief Mike Young sent a statement to WHIO saying:

It is understood that while these comments are highly inappropriate, they in no way reflect the service delivery of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office to ALL of our community and do not reflect the mission and values of the Sheriff’s Office. The community has every right to be upset about Lt. Rodgers’ actions, and he, as well as the Sheriff’s Office in general, will have to work even harder to restore the trust of our community members.

WHIO also obtained communications between Rodgers and his supervisors. In their communication, Rodgers claimed he had no recollection of writing the posts. He also told them that a prescription sleeping pill was making him act “out of character.”

Rodgers received a written reprimand but will remain on duty.
