Statistics Iceland sees the economy grinding to a halt in 2024

Iceland’s economy is set to remain largely stagnant this year, in a revised forecast from the nation’s statistics agency, adding to evidence that Western Europe’s highest borrowing costs are weakening the Atlantic island’s output.

Statistics Iceland reckons the country’s gross domestic product has registered a 0.1% gain this year, down from a 0.9% expansion in June, according to a statement on monday. GDP fell 1.9 percent in the first half of the year, mainly due to weaker fish exports and changes in stocks, it said.
